Kowhaiwhai is a decorative pattern normally found on waka (canoe) or on the rafters of a wharenui (ancestral meeting house). The designs are to represent different aspects of life or links to family.
This is the koru in the representation of the manawa or heart, signifying love, growth, closeness and endurance.
