
The traditional Māori staff is a close combat weapon of authority, used to both attack and defend.
The Taiaha consists of the tinana (body), upoko (head, representing an ancestor), arero (tongue, used to thrust and jab). Usually adorned with feathers which was used to distract the opponent during battle.
Provides protection, balance, coordination and strength.
